- I think I've mostly heard it as "Hero" with a guttural "H".

- I think I suggested a couple of years back that Hero was the New
- Amsterdammer pronunciation of Gyro, but everyone disagreed, telling me
- that Hero sandwiches were nothing like Gyro sandwiches.
