  19. don't actually know how good they've got it. (NOTE: In this instance I'm
  20. referring to sexual harassment of the whistles-and-catcalls-on-the-street
  21. variety; I don't doubt there's a lot of honest rape and job-on-the-line
  22. harrassment going on as well.)

  24. Okay, you're an amazingly attractive woman with a perfect figure.  You get
  25. hooted at and ogled all the time.  Just keep in mind that this same
  26. Neanderthal atttude is the same one that allows you to get better jobs and
  27. promotions, gives you at least a shot of being a famous star, and allows
  28. you to actively date, in the hopes of someday finding the right mate and
  29. having a happy family life.

  31. Now pretend you're an "unattractive" woman (or man, it doesn't matter). 
  32. Not only do you not get catcalls, you get totally ignored, or scorned, or
  33. even publicly attacked as a "beast".  You won't get that promotion,yet you
  34. feel lucky that you ever got a job in the first place, since most
  35. employers want someone who's easy on the eyes more than they want
  36. competence.  You'll never be on TV, unless you get arrested for something
  37. and your mug shot ends up on-screen for millions to laugh at.  And you'll
  38. probably spend months or even YEARS without being asked out on a single
  39. date, and run a much higher risk of spending your entire life alone...all
  40. because you don't fit American society's equation of "attractiveness =
  41. worthiness".

  43. The moral here is: Sexual harrassment works both ways, and I'm getting a
  44. little tired of hearing what assholes we men are when many of us (and many
  45. women) are just as persecuted as the Beautiful People, only in the
  46. opposite direction.  Life ain't fair...get used to it.
