  16. Selection bias alert!  Professors-to-be probably hung out with other
  17. intellectual wannabes (and possibly with their pre-law and pre-med
  18. analogues) and may therefore have a view of their own cohort of
  19. college students ... now that they're professors, they have to deal
  20. with the entire population of students.

  22. I've always had to be careful ... far too many of the students at
  23. the institutions I've worked at remind me of the middling students
  24. from my high school.  Never mind the changing fashion; they still
  25. have the same propensity to look for the easiest way through, and the
  26. same conformity.  Maybe that's why I don't buy into these
  27. generational conflict arguments that keep surfacing.
