- The students are gone, the professors turned in their grades this morning,
- and I'm marking time until I depart on Wednesday. Here's something that
- caught my eye in the Wall Street Journal at lunch: an ad for Time magazine
- that reproduces the 65 "Man of the Year" covers. There were four that I
- did not have a clue about:
-
- 1929 Owen D. Young
- 1933 Hugh S. Johnson (should get partial credit here; I know he was a New
- 1951 Mohammed Mossadegh Dealer)
- 1955 Harlow Curtice (say what?)
-
- Here are the women:
-
- 1936 Wallis Warfield Simpson
- 1937 Madame Chiang Kai-Shek (with her husband)
- 1952 Queen Elizabeth II
- 1975 "American Women"
- 1986 Corazon Aquino
-
- Here are the non-personal ones:
-
- 1950 American Fighting Man
- 1956 Hungarian Freedom Fighter
- 1960 U.S. Scientists
- 1966 Young Generation (Hey, I made the cover of Time!)
- 1969 The Middle Americans
- 1975 American Women
- 1982 The Computer ("Machine of the Year")
- 1988 Endangered Earth ("Planet of the Year")
