  14. Here I sit, looking out a WINDOW, in Building 3 of AT&T's Murray Hill
  15. facility.  Yeah, a window: glass, no Microsoft or X.  It's only one
  16. flight up from the street, and it's sealed shut, so I can't endanger
  17. myself if I'm having a particularly bad day:-).  It's sort of an old,
  18. funky building, very factory-looking, with a machine shop downstairs,
  19. in fact.  The downside is having an officemate.  If people call me
  20. here anymore (note the new phone number at the bottom of the message),
  21. I shall have to watch my language.

  24. U.S.Sprint is a major competitor of AT&T in the wonderful world of
  25. long distance.  Candice Bergen is their spokesperson and is a lot
  26. better at it than Cliff Robertson was as the front man for AT&T a few
  27. years back.  Ted Mack was the host of the old radio Amateur Hour: this
  28. may be so old it's even older than me....  People would get up and
  29. tapdance while trying to whistle the sextet from Lucia di Lammermoor
  30. while chewing Uneeda bisquits: stuff like that.  That was my
  31. assessment of how AT&T handles some aspects of its business.

  34. Pleasant gentleman who does the weather on Channel 4 (NBC) in New
  35. York.  He's probably no more a meteorologist than I am, but his
  36. personality is considerably better, too.

  39. Wow.  THE MAD BOMBER.  I'd forgotten all about him.  He was big when I
  40. was in junior high school back in the Fab Fifties. I think he was some
  41. sort of disgruntled something or other who set off some pretty
  42. incompentently made bombs.  I don't think anyone get seriously hurt
  43. before the cops got him.

  46. DFW is Dallas-Fort Worth airport.  PIN is an acronym for Personal
  47. Identification Number, the four-digit code on the end of AT&T (and
  48. regional Bell) calling cards.  You have to punch it in (or the
  49. cardreader has to validate it) so you can make calls from a voice or
  50. dataphone.
