- I'm planning to buy the MediaVision ProAudioSpectrum 16 sound card,
- which is said to have a build in SCSI-port made by Adaptec (PC
- Magazine). I would like to know if I can connect any SCSI-Device up
- to 7 to it and which drivers I would have to use. Are the drivers
- included or will Ihave to buy these from Adaptec?? Can I use the
- Corel SCSI software kit.
- I want to connect a CDROM-drive and my Bernoulli 90 Meg Transportable
- to this card.
-
- The MV PAS-16 has a Trantor, not an Adaptec SCSI port. In order to
- connect your CD-ROM, you will need to get the cable kit (which
- includes the CD-ROM driver disk) from MediaVision. It is about $25.
-
- Trantor makes other SCSI drivers for the card. They make ones for
- hard drives and for SCSI tape drives. Unlike Adaptec, they do not
- have a separate driver for each brand and model of SCSI device. I
- would expect that the hard drive driver would work with the Bernoulli,
- but you should check with Trantor to make sure. The other-than-CD-ROM
- drivers are not available from MediaVision, you need to contact
- Trantor directly.
-
- The card has no trouble connecting to up to 7 SCSI devices. Recently
- Trantor improved its chip set which makes it much faster than it used
- to be, but the performance is still not as good as the Adaptec with a
- fast hard disk. With a CD-ROM, the drive is so slow that you will
- never notice the difference. You might notice some difference with
- the Bernoulli, but I would expect not much.
-
- The maillist CDROM-L@uccvma.ucop.edu (or CDROM-L@UCCVMA.BITNET for
- bitnet people) discusses these issues in excruciating detail for those
- that are interested.
