- Hi all, and Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukah. I realize that this is the
- wrong place, but the best and brightest minds seem to live on this list,
- and I figure I have a higher likelihood of getting an answer to my
- problem.
-
- Anyway, enough sucking up -- now the problem. As a Christmas present to
- myself, I bought a new disc drive. For some oddball reason, DOS will not
- recognize the presence of a second drive in my system. The controller
- can see the drive, and I can run diagnostics on both the controller and
- the drive without problem, including doing a full surface scan and
- low-level format. However, DOS (FDISK, FORMAT, etc.) refuses to see the
- drive.
-
- The problem is likely related to the fact that this is a SCSI setup,
- but someone out there has to have two SCSI harddrives running on a sigle
- controller (I hope). What black incantation do I need to recite at
- midnight on the moors to get DOS to see the drive and allow me to use
- it??
- Setup is as follows:
- -- 486DX-33, 20MB memory
- -- Future Domain TMC-885 SCSI controller, two attached drives, ID'd as
- units zero and one (Drives are a Toshiba 870MB unit, and a Maxxtor
- LXT200S, on a single daisy-chain cable)
- -- AMI BIOS, DOS 5.0, Win3.1
-
- Is there a DOS parameter setiing needed for proper SCSI support, or some
- magic needed on the controller or the drive that I haven't found in any
- of the documentation?
-
- Any and all help appreciated. My system is running fine, although on
- only one drive. I really want to get two drives going, as it will give
- me a gigabyte on-line, and I can use the space.
-
- Cheers
- Norm
