  11. I don't know  whether the following is the case for W4W, but strongly
  12. suspect that it is since it seems to apply to messages in most other
  13. Microsoft software packages.

  15. It appears that most products come in at least two flavors.  The
  16. first is the domestic US version which is sometimes also available
  17. in parts of Canada (possibly not with MS's blessing) and which
  18. seems to be capable of producing messages and doing particular
  19. kinds of things only in US English.  The second flavor seems to
  20. have the equivalent of national language support, i.e., for these
  21. products, the install process includes a step to select your
  22. favorite non-computer language and the corresponding keyboard.

  24. I recently had occasion to help provide some support for a conference
  25. in the German part of Switzerland.  All the software from Microsoft
  26. was German (not SwitzerDeutsch) and the keyboards were all Swiss
  27. (which need to have French and Italian diacritical marks).  Since the
  28. conference was supposed to be English-based, we had a most entertaining
  29. two days getting everything to work properly.  We finally wound up
  30. with the word processing packages having German and English-English
  31. dictionaries and running a German DOS with farbled English-English
  32. messages.
