  11. The following announcement is directed to undergraduates
  12. with interest in pursuing a Master's Degree in Applied Statistics.

  15. COOPERATIVE SCHOLAR PROGRAM IN APPLIED STATISTICS
  16.         In conjunction with the Ford Motor partnership, Oakland
  17. University has developed a unique cooperative program for the master's
  18. degree in applied statistics, offered through the Department of
  19. Mathematical Sciences. This program provides graduate students an
  20. opportunity to apply modern statistical methods to real world problems.
  21.         A selected few students pursuing the Master of Science in
  22. Applied Statistics at Oakland University will be chosen as cooperative
  23. scholars. This program requires two calendar years to complete. Students
  24. can start the cooperative program anytime during the summer prior to
  25. beginning the M.S. program in September. The stipend for Graduate
  26. Cooperative Scholars will be approximately $16,800 annually. In
  27. addition, tuition is waived for 20 graduate credits per year.
  28.         The scholar is required to participate in statistical consulting
  29. and training activities at automotive manufacturing/ technical sites for
  30. 120 days per year. This internship experience is supervised jointly by
  31. Oakland University faculty and the sponsoring company. The program is
  32. designed for the scholar to apply his or her classroom experience to
  33. real problems in a modern high-tech environment.

  35. APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR OU COOPERATIVE SCHOLAR PROGRAM
  36. (1) Obtain an application form for admission to the graduate program by
  37. contacting our department office indicated below in item (3) or Graduate
  38. Study Office, Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan 48309-4401, Phone:

  40. (2) Send completed application, application fee, letters of reference
  41. and transcipts to the Admission Office as outlined in the instructions
  42. on the application form.
  43. (3) Send a brief resume summarizing academic accomplishments, career
  44. goals and related work experience to : Professor Kevin Andrews,
  45. Department of Mathematical Sciences, Oakland University, Rochester,

  47. (4) Write a brief essay (not more than 500 words) to include with item
  48. in (3). The essay should speak to the following:

  53.         Oakland University?
