- We're glad to see ASUW online.
-
- I am fairly new to the list (a few weeks) and this is my first posting
- to it. I am the newly elected President of the Senate at East Texas
- State University. The University is located in Commerce, TX, which is
- about one hour NE of Dallas. One of the things that has come up so far
- during my presidency is the fact that our Consititution, Standing Rules,
- and other documents are not in proper working order. I've already begun
- to help correct the situation by comissioning a committee to work on the
- documents (yes, I know what USUALLY happens when you send something into
- committe, but it won't happen this time [yeah, right?]).
- At any rate, I would be happy to receive help or advice from any of you
- out there who have gone through the same sort of situation. If you
- would like to send me instruction, a strucural analysis of your
- documents, copies of your documents, or whatever else, SEND AWAY!!!
-
- Also, Commerce is a small town with about eight thousand residents. The
- University, likewise, has about eight thousand students. The problem is
- that most of the students don't stick around in the town long enough to
- liven the place up. As a result, we (though not me) are constantly
- calling ourself a *suitcase school*. There are a few bars around town
- that are filled to capacity on Thursday nights (the University's
- unofficial party night), but beyond that, Commerce is thought of by all
- as a pretty lame town. As an official resident of Commerce and a
- registered Hunt county voter, I would have to agree that the town lacks
- excitement. My question/thesis is this: If any of you have some
- suggestions as to what we could do to keep people around on the weekends
- or just liven up the town, let me know.
-
-
- So long for now and Happy Holidays!
