  35. A fortnightly instalment of the arts and cultural scene in
  36. Singapore.

  38. `A Christmas Carol' a play by Charles Dickens will be on at the
  39. Drama centre from 22-23 Dec. Playground theatre have added some
  40. Singapore flavour to it and it will be called `It was almost
  41. Christmas'.

  43. It tells the story of Albert Koh, an ambitious architect whose
  44. main goal in life is to get his BMW, a condo in district 15, a
  45. hand phone and an office in Shenton Way. He seems to have
  46. forgotten the simpler things in life in his pursuit. Here is
  47. where his guardian angel, Star comes in. She is given the task
  48. of making him mend his ways and rediscover the true meaning of
  49. Christmas. But the plot thickens as Albert is one tough customer
  50. and Star may die if she fails to convince him. So some of her
  51. friends decide to take matters into their own hands and plots a
  52. revenge.

  54. Some of Star's one liners are targeted very close to home like
  55. "I have to make sure every bloody bulb works so people can go
  56. `ooh' and `aah'."  Sounds like great fun!

  59. Substation is not having their annual New Year's Eve bash because
  60. of lack of funds. This 10 hour musical marathon has been
  61. attracting about 15 000 people since it kicked off in 1990. Rock
  62. group, Stomping Ground blames the $2 000 deposit as a deterrent
  63. to sponsors. The organisers have to put up $2 000 deposit which
  64. will be forfeited if the crowd gets too unruly.

  66. However all is not lost. For those who wants to rage on the New
  67. Year's eve, Perfect 10 is organising an `Event of the Year' which
  68. will kick off at noon on the Dec 27 on 98.7 and will culminate
  69. with a party at Zouks. Some of the well known artists like
  70. Douglas O, AWOL, Gani, DNA and Black Sun will be there to welcome
  71. the New Year with you. See you there!

  74. Those preferring a more `arty' way to welcome the New Year will
  75. be thrilled to hear that Theatreworks will put up a `complete
  76. space travellers' guide to Singapore'. This play was a result of
  77. a 12-week comedy writing workshop sponsored by SPH. Audience will
  78. travel through Singapore in the year 2020 while looking for the
  79. ultimate holiday destination. This revue will be held at the
  80. Black Box, Fort Canning and will be followed by a countdown.
