  11. Subject:      processing large ascii file on a Sun compute server

  14. Last question of the year. Have got a large file 621Mg in tar form on an
  15. Exabyte 8mm Cartridge. The scratch disk on the compute server is much
  16. less. How would SAS read a tar format file from the Exabyte ?  If you have
  17. experienced such processing on an Unix system, your comments and
  18. suggestions would be very helpful.

  20. I know it will help to read only obs and variables of interest but the
  21. slow sequential processing is scary.  We are running SAS 6.07.
