- I need to draw a map of a city, specifically Omaha, Nebraska. At this point,
- I only need to show census tracts although at some point in the future I may
- have to need to drop down to block groups. I have MapInfo, a PC-based
- package that will draw all sorts of nifty city maps like I need. But the
- size and scope of the data files that I need to load into the software makes
- this a less-than-convenient software solution. Ideally, I would like to be
- able to do all my 'stuff' with SAS on my mainframe or workstation - hence
- the need for a way to draw a map of the city.
-
- I would appreciate any clues on how to obtain and/or produce such a
- detailed map of the city. Thanks in advance.

- Fred,
- SAS/Graph Proc GMAP and GPROJECT can do the display part of your problem,
- you will have to use convert you MapInfo Dbase files into SAS (no problem with
- either DBMS/Copy or PC/SAS Proc DB3). If your doing a lot of map editing I
- would get MapInfo for Sun Openlook. I am not sure which workstations MapInfo
- supports, we have DOS, Windows and Sun versions. If I had a while to wait (6
- months) I would wait for SAS/GIS, the beta is due to be released in Jan '93.
- Good Luck.
