- 1000 user NetWare is not flakey, but it does have problems with a good
- number of programs that depend on the connection APIs to operate. So, things
- like print servers, software metering, remote access utilites, etc. will
- most likely not work unless they were specifically updated to accomodate.
-
- cc:Mail is not one of the programs that will have a problem. You can
- utilize 1000 user NetWare for this purpose with a high degree of confidence
- that it will work as planned.
-
- I have not had experience with the MAC stuff and 1000 user, but I am sure
- Novell will give you an answer on that one. I would call the Novell
- 800-453-1267 number and ask for Myron Mosbarger. He is one of the
- consultants working with the 1000 user product. Novell does have a
- known compatibility listing that I am sure you could get a hold of.
-
- As far as having more than 500 users in a cc:Mail databse, we have
- about 4500 on each of 11 servers. Some of them haved up to 600 locals and
- the remainder as remotes and aliases. Selecting addressees from the listing
- is fine on most occasions. When a server is very heavily loaded, we do notice
- some delays, but even these are acceptable.
-
- One thing you definitely want to do with large cc:Mail databases is to do
- ALL of your database administration via the IMPORT/EXPORT utility. The
- interactive ADMIN utility does take some time to process entries and is
- not recommended for routine entries.
-
- As for maximum limits, cc:Mail does say it supports up to 64,000 directory
- entries. I am not sure I would want to come close to that number, though.
-
- I would think that your application would be piece of cake. Any of
- the Systempros would be a fine platform to house the mail application
- on.
