  29. I could, but I can't think of one instance in which a company has
  30. taken over a competitor, and the acquired company hasn't been destroyed,
  31. with their products "made compatable with the overall corporate plan" 
  32. (i.e., replaced, compatability be dammed).

  34. NCR was a major manufacturer of 680x0-based computers. They were bought
  35. by AT&T; no more 68Ks. Same with Fortune Computers (bought by my employers;
  36. no longer exists).

  38. Seen any DeSotos or Ramblers lately? AMC killed the DeSotos after buying
  39. the company, then Chrysler killed the Ramblers. What's left of the AMC plants
  40. build Chrysler designs. Not to mention Willis Jeeps.

  42. Cars, airplanes, computers, software; takeover by a competitor has always
  43. led to dissolution. It happens in all industries, with companies of all
  44. sizes. I see no reason that this will be any different; I've seen the same
  45. promises in the past.
