- Hi Bryan,
-
- I ran into a similar situation twice, once on a 10-Base-T Network {which was
- posted to this list a while back} and once with Thinnet. In the case of the
- 10BaseT Net, the problem was eventually traced to a batch of defective PS/2
- Model 30's with Harddrives. The problem got soooooooo bad we eventually
- had to trade in the units for some perfectly working Zeniths, which ARE tested
- with 10BaseT. (So much for Big Blue!?!). The second occation was traced to
- heavy wire traffic so we increased the timeouts for ipx/spx and decreased
- the delay before the workstation sent the watchdog packets and it worked
- fine, except in the case of people who leave there machine on overnight in
- which case they are logged out by the SECURITY WATCHDOG due to time restriction
- s. It should also be noted that the system doesn't clearly define when a
- forced logout takes place due to a Security Logout or a Watchdog logout so
- you might want to check into both options just to be sure. If memory serves
- me correctly there is an NLM which indirectly controls the IPX/SPX parameters
- at the server, while the workstation the shell.cfg parameters are used.
- Getting the MSET.NLM doesn't hurt either. Hope this helps..

- Fellow networking folks,
-
- Has anyone had a bad experience with Eagle brand NE1000's and NE2000's?
- I have recently upgraded my 2.15 server from Gateway's G/Net topology to thin
- ethernet running NetWare 3.11. I chose to use NE cards, but maybe this was
- not such a shrewd decision. Since installation, many users have been logged
- out by the connection watchdog (i.e. as little as 10-20 minutes after login),
- in spite of the fact that the watchdog is configured for the upper time
- limits (17+ hours before logging out an `inactive' workstation). I have
- checked the thin coax several times and found no problems with the cables,
- terminators, or conneters. I would like to hear any comments on possible
- causes if you have any suggestions.
-
- I hope someone out there has had a similar problem (with a solution).
- If more information is needed, I would be glad to supply it.
-
- Happy networking!
