- I cannot answer all of Nicolai's questions re: link files, but I did learn
- the hard way that cross references will only work backwards in NB 3 linked
- files. Thus, one must put the table of contents at the end (with page
- numbers hard set in a delta at the beginning of the TOC). In NB 3 I used
- Itamar's virtual TOC, which is based on cross reference deltas, at the end
- of linked files and it worked every time. My guess would be (I have not
- tested it yet) that NB4 manuscript files work the same way. Cross
- references to labels that the computer has already processed (and in the
- current file, maybe) will work, cross references to labels that the computer
- has not yet processed will produce only a space in the printout.
-
- Which reminds me, Itamar, will the virtual TOC work on NB4?

- In the glory days of NB 3, each September I printed a 15 chapter plus
- bibliography (c. 300 pp.) syllabus using linked files and never had much
- trouble as long as I followed the rules. I, too, put a full set of style
- deltas at the beginning of each file (chapter) and a set of empty header and
- footer deltas at the end of each. Is there any reason why NB4's manuscript
- files will not work the same way?
