  19. I don't know why we have to speculate on the meaning behind it all.
  20. The facts seem to be:
  21. the NBIP=directory-for-XPL-programs only works from the menu.
  22. to run XPL-pgms from the action/command line, the program has to
  23. be found along the system path.
  24. Contrary to what myself and others have said, I don't think this
  25. is necessarily inelegant.  I also now tend to think that this is the
  26. way it is meant to be, since--I guess--the action line uses the core
  27. (xywrite) engine which may be difficult to teach new tricks, such as
  28. looking at the value of a new variable.  But this is pure and probably
  29. unnecessary guesswork.
