- Bill's very helpful summary of activities during the New
- York workshop reminds me that there are at least two on-line
- Internet workshops in progress: NETTRAIN and HELP-NET.
- It seems to me that there was an announcement a couple of
- months ago of an on-line workshop (fee for service, as I
- recall) headed up by one of our subscribers.
-
- I no longer subscribe to HELP-NET, as the traffic became
- too great for me. Can any of our subscribers bring us
- up to date on his/her perception of the usefulness of
- HELP-NET as an online Internet/BITNET workshop and
- perhaps some information on the other one that was
- announced.
-
- Before I end, let me say simply that when I give a workshop
- in one of our "connected" classrooms, the group of
- participants represents a captive audience for 3-4 hours.
- I give them lots of handouts and we go through the material
- at a constant rate. For the ones who are just getting started,
- such an experience is frustrating -- they just barely grasp
- the ideas associated with one topic before moving on to the
- next. Being able to move at one's own rate of comprehension
- on NETTRAIN or HELP-NET seems to me to be a great advantage.
- The disadvantage of something like NETTRAIN and HELP-NET
- seems to me to get a novice hooked up in the beginning.
- I'd be interested to read your thoughts on this.
