  13. I'm sorry, but this is a really naive view which ignores many of histories less
  14. ons.  Ethnic hatred/rivalry is a long seated attitude throughout Europe and var
  15. ies only by degree from country to country.  Do the attitudes of German "skinhe
  16. ads" differ markedly from the Serbian "chetniks"?  What about the "Sons of the
  17. Armenian Genocide" (an ethnically based terrorist group) attacks on Turkish int
  18. erests?  Even the Britons display animosities between the Welsh, Scots and E
  19. nglish which are tied to ethnic roots.  I find iot interesting to note that Ser
  20. bs and Moslems lived side-by-side for years under the centrally controlled Yugo
  21. slav communist dictatorship - how quickly the veneer of brotherhood disappeared
  22.  when there was no one around to enforce it.
  23. To accept the comments of the captured Serbian "soldier" as his true beliefs st
  24. retches my credulity.  First of all, what did anyone expect to say under the ci
  25. rcumstances - that he really enjoyed killing, raping and pillaging?  The "I was
  26. only following orders" defense went out with Nuremberg War Crimes Trials
  27. after WWII.
  28. Finally, I take exception to characterizing the pumping up of passionate rivalr
  29. ies in American football as an example of "economically motivated hate."  It re
  30. flects a lack of knowledge of the game and its players and is no more justified
  31.  than attributing the same motive to rival teams in soccer's World Cup.  Uncle
