  13. Irv,
  14. No writing center? Gasp!
  15.
  16. Isn't a school without a writing center like a day without sunshine?
  17. Like Cheech without Chong?
  18. Like Sonny without Cher (maybe even like Sonny *with* Cher)?
  19. Like Aladdin without Robin Williams?
  20.
  21. But I know what you mean, they are hard to start if they aren't
  22. already started (he said without a hint of irony). Starting is
  23. pretty hard in most cases (including people--take if from one
  24. who's wife is in the eighth year of the nine-month process of
  25. starting one). Tom Hanks' character in _A League of Their Own_
  26. said something about difficulty. When Geena Davis quit the team,
  27. he said of baseball: "Of course it's hard. That's what makes it worth *doing*"
  28. or something like that.
  29.
  30. Not that I buy that ethic. I just mention it because I remembered it.
  31.
  32. You all ever try any collaborative teaching? The subject came up a few
  33. notes ago in reference to helping new GTAs acclimate to teaching more
  34. quickly. Maybe it would help alleviate some problems with incorporating
  35. conferencing in the classroom as well.
  36.
  37. Not that I would know from experience. Just sounds good to me.
  38.
