  18. Russ: thank you for that long message, which makes teaching writing sound
  19. almost as exciting as learning in writing.  Student's don't all have to read
  20. the same thing or write the same kind of thing, and we don't have to read
  21. all that they read, and the discovery of the possibility of difference in
  22. meeting the demands and needs of others (an audience) ought to be one of the
  23. things we let them discover.
