  14. Irv, I have a bit of a problem with the multiple genre syllabus. I'm not sure
  15. how much a student learns about a prose genre by having one go at it. The
  16. conventions of all the different types of papers you mentioned are
  17. complicated, not often spelled out very clearly. One of the things we have to
  18. do in our syllabi, in my view, is make choices. We can't do all kinds of
  19. writing.
