-
- First: Happy New Year, everyone!
-
- Catching up on 1992 e-mail I discovered this message, which I may not
- understand completely (I included parts of what seem like two or three
- messages in this reply, so you'll know what I'm talking about.)
-
- To me, the "substitution" technique described by the first correspondent
- ("African Americans" for "gays;" "Jews" for "Native Americans")
- has always seemed to me a powerful tool for illuminating those prejudices
- of which one remains totally unaware. It was precisely this sort of
- analogy which succeeded in raising _my_ MCP consciousness back in the
- ancient history days of "Women's Lib," and I still find it useful in my
- work with older adults. I guess I don't see it as divisive, although it
- may encourage continued stereotyping among the less enlightened (none of
- us, of course!).
-
- Just my two cents.
