- I would be very interested in hearing speculation on this. I think
- that the great majority of MVS shops don't fall into the category of
- "large batch-driven businesses". Is it IBM's strategy to properly
- support the mainframe for its usable lifetime (whatever that is - 5
- years? 10? 15?) Or is it their strategy to bleed the market for what
- it can while it can, by not practising competetive pricing and not
- putting anything into development and support? I believe the latter
- strategy would hasten the small to medium shops' abandonment of the
- mainframe. The former strategy might actually result in a place (albeit
- a smaller one than today) for the mainframe in the future.
