-
- The kermit protocol was never designed to be fast. It was design to
- be easitly implemented on various combinations of computer hardware
- and operating system software. The folks at Columbia realized this
- and came up with extensions to the protocol (such as sliding windows,
- and continuous streaming, which btw is what makes zmodem so fast)
- which give zmodem type performance while still retaining the ability
- to transfer files with older implementations.
-
- C-Kermit Version 5 is the result of these efforts. The latest release
- has just been posted to the AmiNet. It comes with the full source in
- C. C-Kermit runs on a large collection of platforms, including Amiga,
- and not including MS-DOS (ms-dos has its on specfic version).
-
- C-Kermit has a server mode. I run it in the background in server mode,
- and then I transfer files to my other computer (A TRS-80 Model 4 running
- CP/M kermit) in the background. I can send and receive files from the
- Amiga using kermit remote commands on the model 4. I can even run
- programs on the Amiga, and have the output come out on the Model 4.
-
- Note that C-Kermit does not provide any terminal emulation except
- a dumb terminal. VT100 or its variants will provide that as they
- do right now quite nicely.
