- Believe it or not, that is not always the case. It depends upon the software
- being used. I seem to recall the person in question mentioning that he
- could not get name service on his pc. With TCP/IP for the PC, name
- service depends upon the software. For example, I used Lan Workplace for
- DOS on my PC for a while, and had to write my own hosts file, because it would
- not resolve any IP numbers (and did not plan to, according to the manual).
- The windows version, however, worked quite well, for some strange reason.
- THen I switched to a combination of Clarkson Telnet and Waterloo FTP, and that
- worked fine, with Name resolution and all. So it could just be the software
- you're using. Then again, I could be completely off base here, and if I am,
- you have my apologies. But speaking from personal experience, it could be
- something like that. If the person who needs help wants to continue this
- privately, he/she can email me at INFOSY11@UCONNVM and I will be glad
- to help in any way I can....
