- We've just had a demonstration of the latest in Barco products - the
- Barcodata 300 and 330 and I'm writing to ask for feedback from
- anyone who has purchased one. They look like an interesting alternative
- to LCD colour panels. I haven't seen them mentioned in this list,
- so maybe Hong Kong is getting a sneak preview.
-
- The Barcodata 300 is about the size of a large 35mm slide projector. You
- can connect it directly to most models of PC or Mac and project directly
- onto a screen up to 2.4 metres wide (120ins diagonal). Its LCD has a
- resolution of 640x480 pixels with 4913 colours. The lamp is a user-
- replaceable 400w projection lamp. It weighs 18lbs, comes in a neat
- carry-case and is set up in the same way as a slide projector.
-
- The Barcodata 330 incorporates a 3.5in floppy drive allowing you
- to pre-record your presentation on disc then run the show without
- a computer, just using an i/r remote controller.
-
- The cost is comparable to an LCD panel. For those with calculators
- I'll give the ball-park figures in Hong Kong Dollars (US$1 is about HK$7.6)
-
- Colour LCD panels (about) HK$45,000-50,000
- Barcodata 300 HK$49,000
- Barcodata 330 HK$59,000
-
- To my eyes the image is about as bright as a good quality (say Sharp)
- LCD panel and rather sharper with a very fast response. It's a pity
- that the only way you can use it for video display is to put the
- video through your computer first. If it was a dual system I'd invest
- in these little units without hesitation.
-
- Any comments/reviews will be gratefully received.
