- Allow me to share with you about my Pa (grandfather). Pa isn't a great
- writer of encouraging and moving books like Joni Erickson-Tada (sp?). Pa is
- one of nature's rough diamonds. He grew up a hard man in hard times. He was
- a bullocky (I think the US equivalent would be a mule-driver - in Oz they
- used bullocks to haul trees out of forests) during the depression.
-
- Pa is 86. He had a huge stroke 11 + years ago. He is diabetic, has high
- blood pressure, a plastic hip, arthritis. His left arm and side are still
- partially paralyzed. Nanna died earlier this year. Had she lived, they would
- have celebrated their diamond wedding earlier this month.
-
- Pa never gives up. He enjoys every last vestige of good things available
- to him. He works continually at getting the most out of every available if
- wasted muscle. Things he can't hope to achieve, he doesn't worry about. He is
- a real blessing to us all in the example he sets.
-
- I'm glad Pa hangs on. All of us will be very sad when he finally goes.
- But he has been an example to us all. He is a Christian (was converted at about
- 30 I think) and still tries to get to church as often as possible, and out for
- things like carols by candle-light etc. I thank God for his example.
-
- As I scan this message, I think the spirit of Christmas has muddled me a
- bit, the letter doesn't have too much to directly do with the Kevorkian thing.
- Sorry folks. Rambling mode off.
-
- Regards
- Ken D.
