  17. With the increasing use of telecommunications in "lower" (K-12) education,
  18. this issue is vitally important.  Parents and teachers don't want to hear
  19. about wackos lurking about to take advantage of the innocent without some
  20. security measures in place.  Administrators are paranoid enough already--
  21. even rumors of such things will deny access of entire school systems to
  22. telecommunications.  The efforts we make here to ensure the kind of supportive
  23. environment that the members require may well serve as a success story to
  24. help sway the nervous administrators to give it a chance.  Or our failure

  34. I, for one, welcome Derrick whole-heartedly.  His input would be very
  35. appropriate in the often-tense environments of our homes with members who
  36. have various disabilities.  Even if we are fortunate enough to escape abusers
  37. from the outside, I'm sure his comments will help us to be more aware of
  38. ourselves to avoid situations and behaviors that are less than constructive
  39. toward those whose care we have been entrusted with.
