- PROFILEGRAPH is, as far as i understand (and i am supposed to do so), a program
- that tries to help you with the analysis of protein sequences.
- You certainly know hydrophobicity profiles or and hydrophobic moment plots.
- The current version of PROGRAPH (2.3a) can do such plots and a lot of related
- ones using various parameters and parameter combinations. It also includes
- some auxiliary functions (helical wheel diagrams etc.). Most important,
- PROGRAPH works completely in graphics mode and has a menu-driven shell,
- assuming that you know what you are doing on the protein analysis side
- but not necessarily on the computer application side :-)
-
- Whe unzipped, it comes with various configuration files (*.cfg) for monitors
- with different resolutions. The one configuration file, used by default,
- is called PROGRAPH.CFG and is (intentionally) missing in the .ZIP file.
- it is created when first running the program (prograph.exe) if you choose
- the menu-item "save preferences". If you want to run the program with one
- of the prefabricated CFG-files type something like "PROGRAPH PG256.CFG"
- when invoking the program. There is only one question that needs to be
- answered to start the program: The location of the BGI graphics drivers.
- If you don't store them at a special place, use the directory that holds the
- PROGRAPH files as an answer, the BGI drivers cam bundled with the program.
-
- By the way, the main ZIP file PROGRAPH.ZIP contains 3 further ZIP files
- PG_EXE.ZIP, PG_SRC.ZIP and PG_DOC.ZIP
- in order to run the program, you need only PG_EXE.ZIP
- Forget about the other two, except you like to read the documentation :-)
- The documentation (in ASCII, Winword and Postscript format) tells you most
- other things you need to run the program.
-
- If you have further question, don't hesitate to contact me, you find my adress
- in the signature below.
-
- P.S. Profilegraph 3.0 will be coming within the next months and it will
- include some nice new features and bugs, but i wouldn't hold my breath..
-
- A happy new year,
