- As someone who has been looking to buy a condo for over a year (and as
- someone who bought and sold two units recently), I am appalled at the
- junk available and the prices involved. Also the real estate agents,
- professionals that they try to be, either do not inspect their listed
- properties very thoroughly or else if there are problems, they are
- mentioned very briefly then glossed over. I bought a unit in a
- Kerrisdale strata bldg. that seemed very nice. Right after I moved in I
- heard from my downstairs neighbour that there had been severe water
- damage to his suite from my bathroom. Looking at the replaced tilework
- in my bathroom I saw huge cracks in an improperly-sealed wall. Also met
- another neighbour who had been there since the building went up and he
- went into great detail about how the builder had to redo the water pipes
- and electrical wiring as everything had gone in upside down!! So I put
- the place on the market and luckily found someone willing to take it off
- my hands for what I paid for it (minus, of course, the agent's
- commission). If I had gone to Ed Witzke or another building inspector
- and paid $300 I could have saved myself a lot of trouble. So I would
- recommend that to anyone looking to buy new or used!
