I figured this might be a good place to ask some questions about various
people with the surname Gibson, being that Mel Gibson and his father
are from Australia. (Although I know Mel Gibson hasn't made an Australian
film in a long time).

1. I've heard more than a couple times that William Gibson (sci-fi novel-
ist of cyberpunk fame) and Mel Gibson are related. Is this true? if so,
what is the relation (brothers, uncle-nephew, by marriage only, etc.).

2. I've just read an interview with Mel Gibson in a U.S. magazine
where the interviewer states that Mel Gibson's father is against
Catholicism as it is now, and that Hutton Gibson (the father) writes
books on this topic. My question is: How seriously is Hutton Gibson's
writing taken among the popular press in Australia, or what is the
general response people have to his work?

3. Last but not least, Mel Gibson is a huge star in the U.S., where he
is considered to be the actor you need to bring loads of people in to
see a movie; his recent movies have all done very well at the box office.
Is he this popular in Australia?
