- Having been part of Bell Canada as well as a customer, and by association -
- MCI and AT&T; I find some good and some bad with Telecom. I have mentioned
- some of these already to my district Telegam manager, and include:
-
- - North Americans with few exceptions will not swallow paying for local
- calls. Some states do under the 'baby' bells, but I get very irritated
- having my local calls in Australia billed as total units that I cannot
- verify. Only recently, my arguements were justified in the past as Telecom
- admitted to over charging their customers on these measured units.
-
- + Telecom operator service is one of the most helpful and cheaper than
- ovs, where operators are abrupt and are monitored strictly by time
- alotments per customer.
-
- + Telecom coin boxes with payphone cards have the best integration of
- coin/card boxes I've seen.
-
- - Telecom equipment based largely on Philips is outdated. I'm used to
- Nortel which Optus is using.
-
- - Telecom marketing is off base and needs closer identification with its
- customers instead of this fixation of comparing to the rest of the world.
- Many Aussies really dislike Telecom, and have a negative image. This is
- Telecom's biggest problem where Optus can capitalise. Telecom is market
- lazy, and many of their customers are going to 'burn' them!
-
- + Telecom long distance is competitive.
-
- - Telecom billing technology and service is atrocious. A friend from Bell
- Canada acting as consultant to Telecom Billing system told me what a
- nightmare it was. Has improved, needs to be improved even more. I'm looking
- to Optus as the saviour here.
-
- - Customer Service ... Instead of 'pissing' clients off for not paying
- their bills by cutting their phone service and reinstating afterwards, why
- not charge interest for late payments like Bell Canada does. This will only
- add a conservative $50M in revenue per year.
-
- + Good satelite technology. why not use it more...
-
- - Telecom billing
