-
- I was pretty upset with the ending, too. If nothing else, Rice isn't
- being very kind to women; all Lasher had to do was give Rowan a good blow
- job and tell a few nice lies, and she was captivated! Rowan was described as
- a self- possessed, willful woman, not the type to be easily bent to some
- spooks will-- perhaps some type of possession was involved. Rowan describes
- Lasher as surrounding her, and never leaving her (though his presence may
- not be noticeable), and a genetic link is probably also active.
-
- Still, when Lasher tried to kill Michael at the end, Rowan should have
- snapped out of it, at least temporarily. But then, Rowan's psychic sense had
- been completely twisted by Lasher; she didn't realize that Michael knew she
- was lying to him, so perhaps she's completely out of touch with the world.
-
- I was wondering how Rice would deal with an evil spirit after describing an
- agnostic, existential world in the Vampire Chronicles; her description of
- these entities as an immortal dispersed cellular being was a stroke of
- genious. Here's an entirely new class of beings to write about, integrate
- into her vampire and mummy books.
-
- Aaron several times mentions that other "monsters" have tried to enter our
- world via some gateway, but I don't remember any descriptions of these
- attempts. Did anyone catch this?
