  11. Can anyone tell me whether the gender neutral use of chaps in the UK
  12. or elsewhere has met any resistance?  The analogous use of *guy* or
  13. *guys* in the US has had a split reception, some people arguing that
  14. it is perfectly neutral, others saying it is yet one more example of
  15. a masculine doubling as a generic.
