- If I understand what you mean by "technical utopianism", the answer is no.
- Or at least, that's my opinion.
-
- I think people once believed technology would solve all our peoblems. It
- seems clear that science can give us knowledge, and knowledge can give us
- power, but science can't tell us how to use that power. It can't tell
- right from wrong, and it can be misused.
-
- Social problems are much harder to solve than scientific problems, and so
- scientists hide in labs and worry about the scientific ones.
-
- There's a Japanese proverb that goes something like: there's a key that
- opens the gates of Heaven -- the same key opens the gates of Hell.

-
- Reminds me of H.G. Wells, the science-fiction writer, who championed
- science and technology his whole life and became disillusioned and
- depressed at the end of it.
-
- > Do folks think utopian ideals are justified ... on scientific grounds ?
-
- Utopian ideals are justified, but not on scientific grounds.
-
- Utopian ideals are justified because we must have something to strive for,
- or our lives are meaningless.
-
- > ... maybe on spiritual grounds, as in Marilyn Ferguson and crowd ?
-
- Maybe on spiritual grounds -- who is Marilyn Ferguson (the name sounds
- familiar)?
-
- Or maybe utopian ideals are not "justified" but we need them nonetheless.

- You must heal yourself before you can heal others!
-
- Start with the individual, then groups, then the masses.

- (We can tell you work for Digital, but) could you elaborate??
