- out the obvious here--that is, that it is at least problematic to
- assume that the "authoritative" stats compiled and distributed by
- law enforcement offer the "truth" about how many hate crimes are
- being committed while the figures offered by "partisan" groups are
- much less accurate. it is no secret that "official" stats on hate
- crimes, domestic abuse, white collar crime, and quite a few other
- categories are challenged frequently and often powerfully by
- various "partisan" groups who see the police stats as underreported
- due to systemic bias (and not conspiracy theories).
