  70. Actually, I think you both make splendid conservatives.  However, you would
  71. make terrible Republicans.

  73. Why?  Because the Republicans are no more Conservative, in the traditional
  74. sense, than are the Democrats, especially with the recent Democratic shift
  75. toward moderation.  We are left with a choice between secular liberalism
  76. (Democrats) vs. corporate totalarianism (Republicans).

  78. Traditional Conservativism holds that government should only involve itself
  79. in areas where there is a clear need and a clear solution.  Both parties
  80. have been too busy building empires with the proceeds from special interests
  81. to keep site of that principle.  The result is that we have a govenment that
  82. is involved in =everything= and consequently does more harm than good, on
  83. balance.  And, on top of all that, they waste a great deal of our national
  84. economic resources doing it.

  86. We share an unfortunate bond with the former Soviet Union.  We have both
  87. become addicted to "government."  I hope we can start weaning ourselves
  88. before we face the kind of economic withdrawal symptoms that they are
  89. enduring.  If we don't, then it will be just as ugly here.
