  16. Well it's been one of those years when there is no new
  17. 'product' as record companies would term our particular brand
  18. of cornflakes.

  20. So do Tull boys relax on sun-soaked beaches sipping cool drinks
  21. through long straws, surrounded by servile maidens,
  22. wind-surfers, powerboats and torn up credit cards? No sirree...
  23. unlike the bonnie Bros boys, we older and wiser chappies still
  24. retain our marbles and most of the wonga. Not for us the
  25. clenched fist salute in defiance of changing times. Not for us
  26. to teeter on the brink of the abyss into which fall unloved
  27. lovelies once so fashionable. Sadly, 'though, not for us either
  28. the thicker barnets of yesteryear, the trim taught [sic]
  29. buttocks of youth and more free guitar strings than you could
  30. play in a John Lee Hooker lifetime. Still, you can't have it
  31. both ways.

  33. Even in this, an off year, the lure of the hungry crowd draws
  34. us out... into the Transit van: Martin Barre driving, me
  35. checking suitcases and hotel reservations and David Pegg,
  36. silent operator in the twilight world of back stage security
  37. and catering, making the nightly trek to the box office with
  38. sealed envelopes for the lucky few containing cryptic
  39. 'after-show-only' passes and season tickets for Fairport
  40. Convention concerts.

  42. Big boy Doane will have to wake himself each morning on this
  43. tour, and Martin Allcock will have to learn to put himself to
  44. bed.

  46. Yes, it's the budget special, with small venues, most of which
  47. we haven't played for fifteen years. In response to the many
  48. letters, we thought we'd give it a go... with by necessity, a
  49. smaller crew and a bit less equipment. Not so much back to
  50. basics... just back to Sunderland. And if something in the way
  51. of gigs crops up later in the year... well we might do that
  52. too... so long as we are able to get into the studio around the
  53. end of September, suitably visited by the muse, new guitar
  54. strings and the VAT man; not necessarily in that order.

  56. Right then, here we go... same old Tull, same old stuff, but at
  57. least you got a new tour programme...
