- OK, I remember after the release of "John Barleycorn Must Die" that a live
- Traffic album of the short-lived quartet of Winwood/Capaldi/Wood/Grech was
- going to be issued. I was a member of a record club that listed it as a new
- release, which of course never shipped (believe me, I ordered a
- copy)....instead, UA put out "Winwood" which was a compilation curiously
- released as if it had new material on it. Interesting that "Welcome to the
- Canteen", while obviously a Traffic album, does not have the word "Traffic"
- anywhere on it!
-
- There was quite a stink between Island and UA over the Winwood package (early
- pressings were recalled and later packages contained notices that it contained
- previously released material along with a truncated version of the liner notes)
- and I suspect that had something to do with the "Canteen" credits, although it
- appeared that way worldwide, not just in the US.
-
- I have never heard where the master tapes for the missing live LP went, though.
- Definitely one of the more curious "missing" LPs of the late sixties.
