- I thought some of this might be interesting to alt.rave. This is from
- Urb magazine, a magazine dedicated to Hip-hop, Reggae, and Rave, published
- in Los Angeles and soon to be available in San Francisco at record stores
- (Free!) Most of this is quoted straight from the mag, so no flames.

- Don't Techno for an Answer Vol. 2-
- is head and shoulders above its predescessor, flaunting a nice diversity of
- styles as well as superb and exclusive mixes of each cut. Funky Green Dogs
- from Outer Space, Intruder, Superreal, Xtravanganza, etc. It's kind
- of a misnomer to refer to this as a techno comp, as it really comes off closer
- to a house/trance sound as opposed to hardcore techno.
-
- Only for thre Headstrong Vol. 2-
- [see my last post about it.]
-
- Meat Beat Manifesto, Mindstream 12"
- is actually a very catchy pop-dance record-easily the most pop-conscious
- record from these guys yet. Sing-along lyrics and a nice swinging
- edge makes this a possibility for radio as well as clubs. THe a-side mixes
- are rather tame, coming off like extended versions as opposed to remixes,
- but flip to the B-side and these seems to be the specific intention of
- keeping things more interesting. Why else would they hire remixes from
- Orbital and The Aphex Twins- a pair of artists infamous for their eccentric
- approach. The Aphex Twins, for instance, is responsible, for some of the
- most experimental techno to date, and sure enough his mix of "mindstream"
- is truly "out there," but what it has to do with the original, I don't know.
- That's the beauty of the remix, I guess. Orbital's version breathes deep,
- bristling with the majestic touch that this brother-duo lends to any
- production. This is a worthwhile single from a very worthwhile CD release
- entitled _Satyricon_ on Mute records. enjoy.
-
