- I just put together a boomin' compilation of the best underground rap jams
- of 1992... xDIt's available to all y'all for $5 + $1 shipping. Here's a
- little blurb I wrote up for it for another magazine. If you're interested
- e-mail me or just send the cash right along and I'll get it out to ya.
- VARIOUS ARTISTS -- "The Year in Rap -- 1992"
- Lazy B Productions, $ 5.00
- Cassette, 15 Cuts, Running time -- approx. 90 mins.
-
- J-CARD: Song list and thank-yous.
-
- I'm not going to give numerical ratings for this cassette because I was
- the one that put it together, and a 6.0 out of 5 from the creator might
- sound pompous. :) I also got to attempt to avoid making this sound like
- an ad.
-
- "The Year in Rap -- 1992" is a 90-minute compilation of the fattest
- underground rap singles of the year. When I say underground, I'm talking
- if you heard it on a pop station, though it may be dope, it won't be
- on here (cases in point: "T.R.O.Y." or "Jump Around"). This is simply
- because the aim of the album was to increase awareness about the true
- underground rap scene and bring it a bit more to the public ear.
-
- The intro brings in the Afrika Islam remix of Queen's "We Will Rock
- You" and then brings a piece of President Bush's State of the Union Address
- in.
-
- Das EFX was a definate force introducing the most-stolen lyrical flow
- of the year. These boys originated syllable repetition, or the "diggidda-
- diggidda-dope flow." "They Want EFX" was one of the fattest releases
- of the year, and is the second track on the compilation. My boys kicked
- some serious ass on this one.
-
- Insane Poetry kicked some mad advertisements, but their album still didn't
- hit real hard, mainly because it was so controversial and hard to find.
- "How Ya Gonna Reason With a Psycho" is on this album.
-
- Lord Finesse has been slept on for too long -- he's a dope rapper and
- got one of the best albums of the year. "Return of the Funky Man" kicks
- in as the fifth track on the album.
-
- I won't run down the whole list, but also appearing on the album are
- Grand Puba, Tung Twista, Raheem, as well as some mad remixes of "Uptown
- Anthem" and "Dwyck."
-
- If you wanna get hooked up with "The Year in Rap -- 1992," send $6 ($5 +
- $1 shipping) to:
-
- Year in Rap -- 1992
- 22 Lightning Dr
- Medford NJ 08055-9752
-
- and I'll hook ya up.
-
- Peace for '93.
