  12. Well, my fellow hip-hop fans, this is it:  The Second Annual New Jack
  13. Hip Hop Awards.  Let's see what happens.

  15. In order to make this easier on the rest of us, I ask that you follow
  16. the directions below exactly.

  18. This is the Official Nominations Form(tm).  You should fill it out and
  19. send it to me, isbell@ai.mit.edu, as soon as poosible (no, really).
  20. You can nominate only *three* people/songs/groups/whatever for each
  21. award.  You can nominate less, but, you know, try to think of three.

  23. For USENET people using 'rn' 'gnus' and similar such programs:

  25.   To send this to me, you can probably just hit "R".  This will include
  26.   everything that I've posted with ">"'s or spaces in front of each
  27.   line.  This is perfectly okay.  DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING BETWEEN THE
  28.   LINES THAT TELL YOU NOT TO.  After each award, type in your nominees.
  29.   When you're done, send it off in whatever way you normally would.

  85.   The "bohemian/progressive" part is best described by its members.
  86.   Groups like De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest (and in fact the whole
  87.   Native Tongue Family), as well as PM Dawn and the like fall into
  88.   this class.  I can't do much better.  Try looking up "bohemian" in
  89.   the dictionary. The "jazz" part is more obvious and, in fact, some
  90.   of the above groups fit in that category.

  184.     Award for the artist who used a sample (be it music, voice or
  185.     whatever) in the most innovative or unexpected way to great
  186.     effect.  May be as simple as managing to sample the Partridge
  187.     Family and making it funky or holding album-long conversations
  188.     with Bert & Ernie.  Note the artist and the single/album/EP and a
  189.     reason for the award.
