  30. Or they are (quite properly) saying "the man who is currently President 
  31. made the comments...".

  33. "President Bush made the comments" does *not* necessarily imply that
  34. he was president at the time the comments were made, merely that he was
  35. president at the time the writer commented on the matter!

  37. And there's no easy way around this in English. What you'd have the writer
  38. saying "Presidential candidate Bush made the comments" is equally incorrect.
  39. Because at the time of the *writing*, he was *not* a candidate!
