- The two Patton quotes I know of are:
-
- (1) "I want you to get that man out of bed right away. Get him back
- to the front. I won't have these men who are really wounded
- see that man babied so."
-
- This, of course, is his famous 'chewing-out' of the injured soldier
- (who had shell-shock supposedly), for which Patton was forced to
- make a public apology.
-
- (2) "Dear Ike, today I spat in the Seine."
-
- Supposed to have been the post-script to his formal military
- report to Eisenhower after crossing the Seine. Some variants
- substitute 'pissed' for 'spat'.
-
- Quotes are from 'The Little, Brown Book of Anecdotes' edited by Clifton Fadiman.
