  12. In the 1984 Summer Olympics, a runner (maybe in the 10000 Km?) had
  13. trouble with dehydration and was nearly disabled during the race.
  14. The runner finished anyway, far behind everyone and was lauded for
  15. their courage, etc.  The PA announcer read a quote as the runner was 
  16. near the finish line; I believe he said it was of Greek origin.  It
  17. went something like, "Ask not for victory but for courage, for with
  18. courage you not only bring honor to yourself, but to us all."

  20. Is anyone able to provide accurate information about the quote, the
  21. race or anything else my memory couldn't?  Thanks.
