  14. This is a list of books which are compilations of quotations.  It isn't
  15. complete, but it's a start.  If you have additions to this list, or can

  20. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations

  26. This is one of the "Big Two" quotation books.  Any fan of quotations
  27. should have it available.  Like all quotation books, it is by no means
  28. comprehensive, but it attempts to be, and is at least diverse.  Not a book
  29. to be read cover to cover, but a good reference for looking up particular
  30. quotes.  Quotes are arranged by author.  Also includes a LARGE (approx.
  31. 300 pages) and comprehensive subject index.

  52. A "modern" version of the Oxford Dictionary, centered on quotes by people
  53. who were "still alive after 1900."  As such, the quotations in this
  54. volume may be more relevant to today's concerns.  It is shorter than the
  55. original Oxford, probably due to the absence of Shakespeare and Biblical
  56. quotations.

  80. frequently-contributing curmudgeons (W.C. Fields, Dorothy Parker, Fran
  81. Lebowitz, and Groucho Marx to name a few.)  No index.  A book intended to
  82. be read cover-to-cover.

  95. Robert Byrne has compiled a volume of quotations which he finds to posess
  96. "insight, surprise, wit, pith, or punch."  No attempt is made to be
  97. comprehensive.  The quotes are arranged in "sequential" order, meaning
  98. that they vaguely relate to the ones around them.  It does include an
  99. index by author and subject, though.  This book, and its sequels, are my
  100. personal favorite collections.

  209. A concordance in the back makes it especially useful.  The largest part of
  210. the book is dedicated to Europeans, and quotes from other languages,
