  10. Welcome to alt.quotations.  Two days after creating the group, I find
  11. there are 126 messages...  It's obviously going to be a high-volume group.

  13. As such, I have some proposed guidelines for posts:

  15. PLEASE use an informative subject.  "Here's another one" or "Quotation"
  16. just won't work - I'd prefer something like "Will Rogers on Politics" or
  17. "More Albert Einstein quotes".  Very few of us are going to have the time
  18. to read every single article... 
  19.  
  20. MANY of the posts here are going to be corrections to other posts.  My
  21. suggestion:  include the text (correction) in the Subject: line.  This
  22. will help people like myself who like to know the quote as accurately as
  23. possible, and also those who would rather skip corrections.

  25. MOST IMPORTANT:  If you have some doubt as to the exact wording of a
  26. quotation, don't let that stop you from posting - but PLEASE mention that
  27. it may be inaccurate.  Many of us are concerned about such things...

  29. There will eventually be a FAQ and an FTP site for quotations, and when
  30. that happens there should be an informal rule to avoid posting quotes that
  31. are already there.  However, for the moment, anything goes.

  33. Thanks for reading this, and thanks to all of you who made alt.quotations
  34. possible.  I'm not in charge - nobody is - but if everyone follows these
  35. suggestions, we can avoid some of the "noise" in this newsgroup.
