-
- I discovered a copy in another bookstore that had the second story, "The
- Pain Emperor" in a non-garbled form, so I picked it up (but thanks for your
- kind offer!). What irked me the most was that the Spider was at that hoary
- cliche known as the cliffhanger--trapped by the police in a subway tunnel, and
- unwilling to shot the cops to free himself, how could Richard Wentworth aka
- THE SPIDER! escape? Alas for me, my book ended right there, leaving me
- cursing and swearing at the publisher.
-
- Thankfully, I did learn how he escaped from this certain death-trap (it
- seems to me that of all the pulp heroes--the Avenger, The Shadow, Doc Savage,
- etc.--that only the Spider continually and continuously had the most inventive
- means of evading the clutches of such pursuers as the police and other thugs).

- The local "monster" bookstore I frequent has moved the C&G Spider reprints
- out of the mystery bins and into the "mens adventure" area (along with such
- other notables as "The Penetrator", "The Eradicator" and "The Inexplicable")
- where they also seem to be selling okay.
-
- By any chance do you know the next two titles that will be printed by C&G in
- Feb. or March?
